Printing onto Landyards and Ribbons
Have you ever considered printing onto show ribbons or lanyards? How is this done?
There are several ways of printing onto show ribbons or lanyards. The most traditional way is to print with a thermal transfer printer. This technology is a single pass method in which wax from a printing ribbon is transferred onto the lanyard or show ribbon. This allows a single colour to be printed at once and can provide a simple but elegant solution.
However, if multiple colours are required to be printed, a double pass is required. This means the operator will change the printing ribbon to a different colour and run the lanyards or show ribbons through the printer again. This process requires specific alignment of the ribbon to ensure the location of the second colour aligns with the first colour.
When considering this print option, care also needs to be taken in the printer ribbon selection. Specialized printing ribbons in unique colours such as white and gold are often very expensive making the process costly as well as difficult.
The new way of printing onto labels is with overprinting through a specific colour printer. We have found the OKI Pro 1050 to provide an excellent, cost-effective way for direct print onto ribbons. The five-colour printer, CMKYW, allows a single pass of a 1200dpi print providing superior print quality and performance compared to traditional printing methods.
